The
Providence Performing Arts Center is pleased to announce
the addition of a new, specially - commissioned chandelier
to the Theatre. The architectural history of the
Theatre indicates that there may have been plans
back in 1928 to install a chandelier, however, this
plan was abandoned for unknown reasons (it is speculated
that it could have been due to lack of funds.)
In 2002, PPAC commissioned the distinguished
artist/designer/professor Dan Dailey to create
a masterpiece that would illuminate the brilliance
of PPAC’s majestic interior. With local
ties to the area (a graduate of RISD and colleague
of the prominent artist Dale Chihuly), Dan Dailey’s
artistically- innovative work is represented
in 46 museum collections in the United States,
Europe, Australia, and Japan.
The lighting
of PPAC’s new chandelier on September
16, 2004 represented the culmination of more than
two years work - from the conception of the prototype,
technical drawings, L.E.D. lamp construction, metal
fabrication, assembly, and glass. A committee co-chaired
by Cheryl Bready and Roger Mandle was assembled to
oversee the development, direction, and progression
of the entire chandelier process.
